A somewhat quieter vacation

I’m currently visitng my sisters’ place in Fredericton. We only live a few hours away from each other, but I don’t have a car, bus service has been reduced within the Atlantic Bubble, and the trains aren’t running at all. I had a four day weekend coming up for the Thanksgiving holiday (my EDO landed on the Friday before), so I booked a few more days off around the weekend, found a sitter for Autumn, and bought a round-trip bus ticket.

I know people in the area and like exploring the city, but I’m more than fine with staying in the apartment the whole time. My older sister has to travel a fair distance to her teaching job, and my younger sister has a cold and is awaiting the results of a COVID test (she’s social distancing within the apartment). Compared to my Montreal and Boston trips, I don’t have the same urge to wander around the city or look for records; maybe part of it is because of COVID precautions, but I also have three cats at the apartment to keep me entertained.

I hardly get to see my younger sister’s cats Daffodil and Lucy (Goose) anymore, except at Christmas, where they have to compete with Autumn, as well as my parents two dogs (Maggie and Raven) and two cats (Mikey and Roger). I also wanted to meet my older sister’s new kitten Lemon. It’s nice to get a chance to see Dilly and Goose when they’re not trying to hide from other animals, though Lemon sometimes bugs Goose (Dil is much more patient).

Dil was so happy to see me when she first came out; she’s always enjoyed my company to the point that my sisters will refer to me as her favorite person. She’s a happy and friendly cat in general, but whenever I’m around, she’s that much more chirpy and purry. Goose Goose is also a very sweet girl, and reacts the same way Autumn does when she gets her ear scritches (mouth widens and opens slightly), and purrs and kisses me. Lemon, being a kitten, is quite hyper and busy, but is also curious about the new person hanging around the apartment.

Everyone’s going up to Miramichi tomorrow (assuming clear test results) for Thanksgiving dinner at our parents’ house, then coming back on Sunday night. After that, it’s probably going to be more sleeping, more TV, and some internet. I’m not really thinking about missed opportunities to visit friends or buy things this time around; I think I just needed some time outside of my regular life and daily responsibilities more than anything else.

I am looking forward to seeing Autumn when I get back, though, and anticipate she’ll meow at me for fifteen minutes straight when I get through the door.
